There’s a story to be told and learned when you sit at the footsteps of Selma. Welcome home Mr. Roper. #CottonsHouse

A Selma native has returned to open an event space he hopes will anchor further growth in downtown Selma.

Aaron Roper, who grew up in Selma, has renovated the former A1 Furniture store on Franklin Street to an event space and veterans’ counseling center titled The Anchor. The full effect won’t be evident until the grand opening in late August, but the building will celebrate a “soft opening” with an hour-long education session for veterans at 10 a.m. Aug. 1.

“Opening this event center allows me to have a nice place we can rent out and a place to do things for vets,” Roper said.
